Build song-generation features with Suno's flagship v6 model through GPTProto. Chirp-v6 turns creative direction, lyrics, and style instructions into complete vocal or instrumental tracks, while one GPTProto key and shared balance simplify testing it alongside other audio and multimodal models.
Full-Song Generation
Create structured vocal songs or instrumental tracks from a concept, custom lyrics, and musical direction instead of producing only a short loop.
Up to Eight Minutes
Suno states that every v6-family model can generate up to eight minutes of music in a single generation.
Detailed Musical Direction
Guide genre, mood, instrumentation, vocals, structure, and the overall feel of a track with language that musicians and producers already use.
One GPTProto Key
Use one API key and shared balance for Chirp-v6 and 200+ other models without maintaining a separate provider account for each model.
Chirp-v6 is the API-facing route for Suno v6, the flagship model in Suno's current music-generation family. Suno announced v6 on September 9, 2026 alongside v6-wild and v6-mini. The standard v6 model is positioned for precise, repeatable results across genres, while Wild prioritizes variation and Mini prioritizes faster idea generation.
The model is designed to interpret more than a genre label. It can follow direction about vocals, instrumentation, song structure, mood, references, and the intended feel of a track. In Suno's own product, the v6 generation also supports creative direction from text, audio, images, and video, plus plain-language edits to song sections and individual lyrics.
API capabilities must still be read from the GPTProto request schema. A feature available in Suno's web product is not automatically an accepted API parameter. Use the fields and model identifier shown in this page's fixed Quick Start section as the source of truth for the GPTProto route.
| Specification | Chirp-v6 |
|---|---|
| Developer-facing model | Suno v6 music generation |
| Provider | Suno |
| GPTProto model string | chirp-v6 |
| Primary task | Text and lyrics to complete music |
| Output types | Vocal songs or instrumental music |
| Maximum duration | Up to 8 minutes per generation according to Suno; confirm the same limit is exposed by the GPTProto route |
| Core controls | Creative prompt, lyrics, style, title, and instrumental or vocal mode; exact fields depend on the live endpoint |
| Reference inputs | Suno v6 supports text, audio, image, and video references in its product; confirm which input types GPTProto accepts |
| API access | One GPTProto key and shared balance across 200+ supported models |
Music features in creator products: Add prompt-to-song or lyrics-to-song generation to editing tools, creator platforms, and branded content workflows without building an audio model stack from scratch.
Soundtrack prototyping: Generate early music directions for short films, games, trailers, podcasts, and social videos. Teams can compare mood, arrangement, and pacing before committing to final production.
Songwriting iteration: Turn a lyric draft or musical brief into alternative arrangements. Chirp-v6 is better suited to complete song structure than APIs designed only for speech, sound effects, or short background loops.
Instrumental concept generation: Request instrumental tracks for product demos, background scoring, game scenes, or presentation concepts. State the role of the music, desired energy, instrumentation, and structural changes in the prompt.
Catalog and workflow experiments: Use the same GPTProto account to evaluate Chirp-v6 beside other supported audio models, then keep routing, billing, and model access under one balance.
Suno v5 improved audio clarity, vocals, genre understanding, mixing, remastering, and variation control. Chirp-v6 is the current generation and expands the workflow beyond producing a new track from a conventional prompt. Suno has said that earlier models will be retired as the platform moves to the v6 family.
| Decision Factor | Chirp-v6 / Suno v6 | Suno v5 |
|---|---|---|
| Product position | Current flagship in the v6 family | Previous-generation model |
| Creative direction | Understands vocals, instrumentation, structure, mood, references, and overall feel | Focused on clearer audio, natural vocals, genre understanding, mixing, and variation control |
| Source material | Suno's product can use text, audio, images, and video as creative references | Primarily documented around prompt-led creation and remaster workflows |
| Editing workflow | Supports plain-language section edits, multi-source mashups, sampling workflows, and single-lyric changes in Suno's product | Supports remastering and control over variation from an existing song |
| Model choices | Standard v6, v6-wild, and v6-mini for different quality, exploration, and speed needs | No equivalent three-variant v5 family announced |
| Recommended use | New integrations and current-model evaluations | Legacy regression testing only, if the older route remains available |
There is no public standardized benchmark that converts these product differences into a universal quality score. For an API migration, test both versions with the same lyrics, style brief, duration, and post-processing so you can compare prompt adherence, vocal artifacts, arrangement, ending quality, and retry rate on your own workload.
| Model | Design Goal | Best Fit |
|---|---|---|
| Chirp-v6 | Precise, reliable, polished generation across genres | User-facing song generation, repeatable creative briefs, and quality-first output |
| Chirp-v6-wild | Less predictable and more varied musical decisions | Exploration, genre blending, unusual textures, and generating directions to refine later |
| Chirp-v6-mini | Faster and more efficient generation | Drafts, high-volume ideation, previews, and early product testing |
Choose Chirp-v6 when consistency and prompt alignment matter more than maximum variation. Use Wild to discover unexpected directions and Mini when iteration speed is the main constraint. Before adding either variant to production, confirm that its exact model route is listed in GPTProto and test billing and output behavior separately.
Treat the upgrade as a model migration, not only a name change.
Replace the legacy model value with the exact live identifier copied from GPTProto's Quick Start panel. Do not infer capitalization, separators, or aliases from another API provider.
Re-run a fixed evaluation set covering vocal and instrumental tracks, short and long lyrics, multiple genres, structural tags, and difficult endings.
Compare output duration, prompt adherence, vocal artifacts, arrangement consistency, generation time, retry rate, and cost per accepted track rather than judging one favorite sample.
Keep web-product features separate from API features. Only send image, video, audio, editing, or mashup inputs when the GPTProto schema explicitly exposes them.
Review the current usage and commercial terms for your application. API access does not by itself add rights beyond the terms attached to the model and your account.
Choose Chirp-v6 when your application needs complete songs, vocals, instrumentals, or structured music from natural-language direction. It is a better fit than text-to-speech when the output must contain melody, harmony, arrangement, and song structure rather than a spoken performance.
For narration, voice agents, audiobooks, or character dialogue, use a speech model such as GPT-4o Mini TTS instead. For fast music drafts, test Chirp-v6-mini if GPTProto exposes the route. For more experimental results, test Chirp-v6-wild and move the strongest direction back into a consistency-focused workflow.
